    Oh yeah -- I forgot about the "picture dictionaries."

    The DK books have always been a huge hit in our house. I liked that we could find one that appealed to his given obsession du jour. He still pulls out the DK Star Wars encyclopedia years later.

    I just downloaded one of these (Animals) to our Kindle last night to see if he likes them. If he does, that should keep him busy for awhile! And the Kindle versions are $2.99 so pretty great value given the number of pages and all the pictures!

    Our DD never did the alphabet backwards, but she did make it more challenging for herself by learning it in three languages.
