What is the difference between the Stanford Binet IV and V? My friend is going to have her daughter tested with one and she can choose. Thanks!

Is it possible that the choice she has is between the SBV and the WISC IV?

She thought she could, so she did.

It looks like DYS takes either SB-IV or SB-V, right?

I believe that is for kids who were tested a while ago before the SB V came out. They require at least one of the tests (achievement or IQ) to be no more than 2 yrs old if I recall correctly so the IQ test could, conceivably, be old enough to be version IV.

But on their website, it looks like they currently accept SB-IV or V, right? yes, it may be that you would likely get the SB-V but it looks like either test is valid.

Honestly, whether DYS accepts the SB-IV or not is a side point to me. When testing, I'd think that the point would be to get the most accurate representation of the child's abilities as possible. I realize that IQ tests are imperfect and no test is going to give you the be all end all of who a person is, but I also can't imagine intentionally choosing an old test when the newer version has been out for many years b/c the scores just wouldn't be as accurate.

There are places that still use even earlier versions of the SB. It is controversial, though, and I'd always go with the most recent version unless there was some compelling reason to select an older version. I also believe that the most up to date test would be best for advocacy purposes.
