    Hello,

Sorry for posting here. I hope it is the appropriate place.
I recently saw a psychologist to sit an IQ test because several people around me tought I might me be gifted.
I knew nothing about IQ test and sat the french WAIS (I am french). When I got the report I realised I had sat the WAIS-R instead of the WAIS IV (the newest one). I therefore wonder if the results are accurate as I read things on the FLynn Effect.
My results are quite high (to my surprise ) but I have a discrepancy between the verbal scale and the performance scale.
The latter is 26 points lower, but both are above 125.
I have heard several times that such a discrepancy makes the Full Scale IQ irrelevant.
I have asked the psychologist and she said everything was fine but I am not so sure.
Can anyone here give me their toughts about that ? I live in a very small town so meeting another psychologist for an IQ test is not going to be easy at all.

    Thank youi for reading

Do you have any particular concerns in regard to your functioning in life? If not, I'd probably not worry about the difference in the verbal and performance scales.

In regard to the version you were given, are you sure it was the WAIS-R, not the WAIS-III? The "R" version is very old. It was released in 1981, at least in the U.S. Version III came out around 1997 and version IV in 2008, again in the U.S. I do suspect that the results would be somewhat inflated if you were given a version that is two versions outdated, but with scores as high as you got, it sounds like there are good odds that you are gifted either way, just maybe not as highly as the test you took might indicate.

The adult versions of the Weschler tests don't have alternate ways of calculating the full scale IQ when there are large discrepancies, such as yours, but you are correct that the FSIQ is less reliable when you have big gaps between indices.

Thank you for your answer. I don't have particular issues. I only have problems in my relationship to others.
As for the test, the different parts are congruent with those described for the WAIS-R (11 subtests...)

It probably doesn't matter that much.
It is just a new thing to get used to.
    Thank you for your help
