I have noticed that even for kids with no problem related to writing, they are extremely stressed to write in timed math fact tests. It takes time to train how to relax the stiff fingers and wrist.

I always appreciated how the montessori did timed math facts. They'd have more than one timer, and the kids were responsible for timing each other. They would start the timer at zero and see how fast they could get the page of problems done. It was great, because they were ALL trying to improve their time, no matter if they were at 5minutes or 55 seconds.

I've thought this might be a good work-around for a child with processing or other challenges that might make math fact retrieval and writing difficult.
