My DD6 (in kindergarten) finished an IQ test with a child psychologist today. However, the child psych told me that she needs to return for a second visit, so she can administer an out-of-age test. What exactly does this mean and what are the implications? Does that indicate she might score well enough to be competitive for DYS?

    Thank you!

I can't give you an answer on the DYS question (that will depend on how your child actually scores), but it sounds like the child psych is administering both an IQ test and an above level achievement test. The first will tell you your child's capacity to learn, and the second will hone in on what your child has learned.

For my daughter's grade skips, both of these types of tests (as well as in-grade level achievement tests) were given.

Are you looking into a whole grade acceleration?

Thank you for your reply. I certainly can appreciate why someone suspect that an achievement test was being administered, especially if testing was being done for school-related purposes.

We home school, and I know in this instance that the child psychologist is waiting to conduct achievement tests until her general IQ test is completed. She's having her return for an out-of-level (or age) IQ test.

Do you know what test she was giving her? I would assume she hit the ceiling on whatever test that was, and so now she wants to move onto a test with a higher ceiling.

Ok.. so perhaps she was administered the early years battery, and wants her to come back for the school-age battery? The school age battery is for children ages 7 and up.
