    My dd7 is like this and seems to be growing out of it a bit at this point. I think she just likes the challenge of trying to win people over. We encourage her to spend time with the gentle/sweet/nice kids who might not be as flashy but never hurt her feelings.
    Keep giving your dc the same message over and over about how to choose friends and what you value in people. It will sink in!

    My son had a similar problem at five. We talked a lot about how friends should treat each other and how he deserved to have nice friends because he is a nice boy. I agree with daytripper75 about giving the same message over and over again until it sinks in. Eventually it does.
