Not only did we manage to talk my 5 year old daughter's school into letting her take AR tests....but she tested at a mid third to early fourth grade level! (Sorry, had to brag here because most of the general public doesn't like to hear about the kids' achievements. But I was pretty excited about it.)

...of course, the problem with this being that after months of nagging the school to challenge her, I didn't realize that I wasn't challenging her either! I think we'll be making a trip to the book store today....

Good for your daughter, and congratulations on your successful advocacy! It's funny how sometimes we feel like we've got a good handle on how smart our children are, only to have them go and do something above and beyond our expectations. Thanks for sharing.

Good for you two! I am encouraged enough by stories like this that you guys out there are sort of becoming my cyber mentors since I have no G-parent mentors myself in "real life". I've started to bump things up politely but persistently and with charm and confidence (is this all possible?)

My mother always says "just ignore the school situation, you can't do anything it or those people" but unfortunately I don't agree anymore. Something needs to be done!
