I am looking for a fun resource to introduce literary devices like themes, symbolism, irony, satire etc to DD8. She is a language arts girl and I know she would love learning about the how and why her beloved books are put together and tell us about the big questions of life. She has begun to read books that use these devices so now seems like a good time. Anyone know of resources?

Also I would like to find a kid level book about propaganda techniques. I was fascinated to study this as a child and I think she would be also.

I'll be watching for more answers because it's a great question but do you know about that (pricey) language art program by Michael Clay Thompson? He's done a few classics with notes in the books- Peter Pan, Wind in the Willows, Alice in Wonderland. There's notes all throughout the books telling where, why, and how the author used literary techniques.

Eta: pre read it because the Peter pan book said in the forward the author's brother passed away at the age of thirteen inspiring the book about "never growing up.". MCT sells it for the third grade.

I used this website for propaganda- http://pbskids.org/dontbuyit/advertisingtricks/

combined with a series of videos on youtube- here is a link to one-

Then my son made his own ad using all of the different techniques to try to get someone to buy a Lego brick. It was fun!
