    I received my daughters test results from the WISC-IV:

    Verbal Comprehension Index: 140

    Perceptual Reasoning Index: 123

    Working Memory Index: 118

    Processing Speed Index: 96

    From this information, do the composite/index scores indicate a "large disparity" which would call for calculation of the GAI instead, and what would the GAI be?

    Any help is greately appreciated!

    I get the GAI to be 138 or 99 percentile. If you add the subset scores of the VCI and PRI and then look them up on the WISC IV TechReport4 (If you google that you will find it) Then you can look up the scores and decide whether or not they can be used. I wonder if you have your full report yet? If not maybe you could inquire with your tester about the GAI and have that used as a more accurate picture of your kid. Good luck. I imagine with a 140 in the VCI she needs the gifted program.

    Here is a quote from the manual:

    The practitioner may wish to consider using the GAI in a
    number of clinical situations, not limited to, but including the
    following:
    • a significant and unusual discrepancy exists between VCI
    and WMI;
    • a significant and unusual discrepancy exists between PRI
    and PSI;
    • a significant and unusual discrepancy exists between WMI
    and PSI; or
    • significant and unusual intersubtest scatter exists within
    WMI and/or PSI.

    I also have read that gifted kids often find the memory tests without real function and therefore do not perform as well on them as would be expected. That happened for my kiddo. She memorizes really easy and yet her scores did not reflect that. The more complicated of the two scores was much higher than the easy one.
