Strategies that work, teaching comprehension for understanding and engagement.  By Stephanie Harvey

I posted about this in a recent thread because I ran across it in Amazon and they give you a two chapter free preview through kindle.  I liked the chapters but I didn't end up buying the book.  You could always look at it, maybe it will help.   One thing that got me was when she brought up the weekly reader magazine I remembered how much I used to love getting those.

Ok. Update. Read dd Freckle Juice which she loved and wanted to hear repeatedly. Also introduced American Girls, which I had thought she was too young for. Of course, she loved them from the start. Now I may need them all. smile Already thinking about the doll for Christmas since she named one of her baby dolls Kaya immediately. smile

We have also been doing starfall but I find she is right in between the levels. The reading parts are too hard to read independently, but too slow to click and wait for each word. The letters are too easy, but still fun.

Glad things are working out. DD3.5 loves the Dick and Jane books. I learned to read with them way back when. As she reads them I realize they are great for little ones. The children look really young. She loves to compare her age to the three kids. She takes one of the books to bed and reads on her own. As for Starfall there is also other games to do. I am not sure whether you have to buy the whole program to get to them but there are ones about the words for a kitchen, bedroom and living room. They show the shape of the word. I think DD learned quite a few words from playing those games. My older daughter at 3.5 loved A Wrinkle in Time.
