This was sent home yesterday. Has anyone seen this about primary fall MAP?

We have just finished our second round of MAP testing. You will be receiving this information when we get back from the winter break in January. Unfortunately, an issue was discovered with how our fall MAP assessments were scored for our kindergarten and first grade students. To correct this issue going forward, MAP has already made an updated version of the tests available to us. Additionally, MAP re-scored all affected students test results and the reports that are available to us. As a result of this issue, it is possible that your childs score may have changed. NWEA has determined that re-scoring your childs test will provide us with the most accurate score possible that can be used alongside other observations and evidence from the classroom to better understand the needs of your child. If you are the parent of a kindergarten or first grade student, you will receive a letter from NWEA explaining this issue.

I just wonder how it affects the scores. Ds scored very high in math although I think his score may go up. We find out the second week of January at conferences. Before that though we have an independent wisc and wiat

I sent a note to the principal this morning trying to get more information.

    and the response..

    Mr. M,
We are looking into several programs for Ds. Some rely on the MAP scores. How do we know if his were among the affected scores? Was the problem only with our school's scores? I have asked several friends with kinder kids at other schools and they know nothing about the possible problem.

    Thanks
    S

    S,

The problem was with NWEA...so all students were effected. Other parents may not be aware because we won't be sending out the parent letter until we send out the MAP data in January.

    I hope this helps.

    C

Why would there be no info on NWEA website? Or anywhere else on the web?

It may be related to the 2011 MAP norms that were recently released. They are largely similar to the 2008 norms, but percentiles tend to be a little lower at the high end of the scale under the 2011 norms (IIRC there are comparison curves in the PDF file). AFAIK the changes don't affect the raw scores, just the percentiles that are generated from them.

ETA: Fall math norms begin on page number 64, which is actually page 78 in the file. You might want to save this file, as it might not be publicly available forever.

The fall scores were aligned to the new norms. As a matter of fact they went bck to previous years and renormed all those scores to the new norms as well!

We received winter MAP scores yesterday and I didn't see anything different. I am so confused. There was a letter explaining that NWEA made an error in the RIT scores on primary MAP but it must not have affected us.

I think no change is good news. Glad to see that they remembered that they are trying to figure something out for your son as recently as Dec.
Print out that email to show them that they did say they were waiting for the MAP scored to try and figure something out.

    Good luck!
