Her comments... DS's scores above age and grade level for both math and reading. His math scores fall between grade 2 and grade 3 and 4 months. Though age normed. the scores are based off ds being in 1st grade and exposed to 1st grade material. Ds is only in kindergarten.

She also commented that his processing scores were low because he talked his way through step by step the timed tests (his perfectionism tendencies perhaps?)

Hi, frannieandejsmom! Congrats on the scores. That's what I get for a GAI too.

Quick notes. My DS6 took the WPPSI a year and a half ago, so I don't have a WMI score for him. But the rest of his scores are fairly similar to yours, except the VCI and PRI scores are flip flopped. My DS's PSI score is lower than yours. The tester's report back to us was essentially: he's really good with his cognitive abilities, the differences betwen VCI and PRI don't mean anything, he's "smart" all around, but his lower PSI score is likely to lead to some frustrations as he gets older with written output, notetaking, etc., and she gave us some strategies to address it. My DS's lower PSI score (102) is still 55th or so percentile, but it's resulting in *something* with our DS, and we just had him tested to figure out why his reading is coming along so slowly. Your score at 112 is quite a bit higher, and from what I've read on here, lower PSI scores are pretty common and generally not an issue. I know there are a lot of folks on this forum who understand testing a lot better, but I thought I'd relay our tester's evaluation, since our DS's scores were quite similar to yours.

I wouldn't even read the PSI or WMI as low scores, per se. While they are lower than the other scores, they are still well above average and I wouldn't worry terribly about the discrepancy unless you are seeing functional difficulties IRL.

I'm wondering about the pieces where the tester noted that he hit the ceiling as well. I might ask for more info on that unless you already have it. Generally, I've not seen a child to be noted to have hit a ceiling until s/he has 18 or 19 scores. I could see a 17 maybe being a ceiling if there was a pattern of one missed, one correct until the end of the possible problems, but I'd see a 16 as less likely to be that type of pattern. My youngest had some of those "miss one, get one right" type of patterns that did deflate overall scores and, for her, I'm not sure if her ADD played into that or if she's just very asynchronous.

They might not mean anything, or they might mean there is something that will show up as a challenge for your ds in some way at some point. If you haven't had any concerns at this point in time, I wouldn't give any thought to it - they are both good scores and many of the kids here have lower PSI and WM scores than their VIQ/PRI. OTOH, if your ds starts having trouble with any kind of school work (timed activities, writing, etc) I'd consider investigating the reason behind the difference in scores, because even though it's most likely not, it *can* be an indication of a learning disability.

    Best wishes,

    polarbear
