His sister is in 4th grade so a grade skip would still have them a grade apart. I think the school would be resistant to a grade skip however. His teacher's current stance is that he can't do any of the advanced stuff until he shows that he complete his work consistently (fair enough to a point). But it seems counterproductive to insist he can't do advanced math if he didn't turn in some coloring pages.

We'll have to see what the outside assessment shows us. I think polarbear mentioned that the provider may have specific knowledge on the merits of each school and where he might best fit in. All we know is that the traditional/lock step approach isn't really working for him. I know I'm not exactly unbiased but what I see him do at home versus what I see him do in school are like night and day.

Hopefully we'll have enough data to approach his school and discuss what's best for him. It seems strange that they concentrate so much on these test scores (they talk about them enough) and then ignore all but the lowest scores.

If they are resistant to changing anything, we'll just have to find another school for him. Luckily, there are several fine ones in the area.
