So, not entirely sure what to make of this. I only get the percentile, not the RIT score/range. First six weeks DS got 96 in math and 100 in science. This six weeks those dropped to 93 and 94, respectively. Is that normal? I thought the goal was to get them to go up? Could his being so bored all the time have caused this?

You MAP test every 6 weeks? We only do it 3 times a year. It is not uncommon to fluctuate- he could have just had a bad day. If you see a continual decline or a more drastic drop I would be concerned. Yes boredom could contribute but since this is the test that will test to their knowledge limit it would be something that would challenge him. I like it when ds comes home and we always talk about what the hardest questions were. I would see how he felt about it and look at the NWEA site, find the score number for the grade that matches his percentage-( the have a chart- you can google the 2011 rit charts) then look at the page they have that gives score ranges with problem examples(don't remember what it is called but on the NWEA site) and see if you think if it is in his range or out of his range. Hope that helps!

the new MAP rit scales can be found in this link

    http://www.nwea.org/sites/www.nwea.org/files/resources/NWEA_2011_RIT_Scale_Norms.pdf

Are you sure he took MAP already? The winter MAP window opens at the end of the month (so I thought). They have 4 testing windows fall, winter, spring and summer (not commonly used).

The percentiles can go down even when there is growth. The norm group had more growth then your ds. I would ask for the NWEA report. It will show you the district average and the national average.

It's all very confusing without having his actual scores. I guess I'll just leave it for now. I already know he wasn't being challenged at school in math or reading, what's one more subject at this point? *sigh*
