I don't know about the book question and was wondering the same thing. My daughter DD8, 3rd (grade accelerated) took the SCAT in April and then again last Friday. We had the ey1 first, followed by the ex1. In April she scored in verbal 28/428. It was so close to the cut off, I decided to have her try again. This time she got 32/429. It's hard to believe 4 more correct questions only nudged her up a point, but I've seen similar posts her before so I guess it is common for the scores to fluctuate from one test version to another and just depending when you test. The good news for us is her math increased substantially from 32/429 to 46/470. I guess maybe analogies just aren't her thing as her reading/language arts skills are actually a really strong area for her.
