HEROES will be hosting its second annual conference for the profoundly gifted at Rutgers University on Saturday, January 23. Students can select from lab programs such as Astro-Physics, Chemistry of Bio-Luminance, Electronic & Robotics or Marine Science or a 13 other one-hour programs in math, science, linguistics, writing and more. HEROES does not place any age restrictions on students registering for the program in recognition of the huge variablity of ability levels with profoundly gifted students. Students who register for most math and science programs should have mastered at least algebra II, whether or not they have it on an official transcript. Some classes such as the astro-physics lab require more math maturity. Writing and humanities programs are suitable for students whose language arts skills are at least at the high school level.
While the students are attending their program, parents can attend sessions on parenting the profoundly gifted, working with mentors, preparing for college, negotiating with schools, and homeschool resources.
The student program and parent programs are completely seperate. It in not necessary for both the parent and the student to register.
The conference is $50 for HEROES members and $65 for non-members. HEROES offers a discounted sibling rate. HEROES membership is $35 per year. Students must qualify for HEROES in order to register for the conference regardless of whether they choose to join by paying the membership fee. Go to
