I have always been convinced that my DS6 is a visual spatial learner but there are parts that don't seem to fit and I am beginning to wonder if his Dyspraxia is playing a part? He has always seemed to been a visual learner - show him something once he usually has it down pat....he did not learn phonetically it just seemed like over night he learned his numbers, the alphabet and then next thing we knew he was reading....he can not "sound out" a word...it just doesn't work for him and frustrates him to no end. His spelling is horrible and is a stress point for him. He is a perfectionist to the enth degree and is afraid to try something and make a mistake and many times will opt not to try at all. He tells me that when he is really involved or really stressed or upset, that he just can't come up with the right words to express what is going on in his head. He loves figuring out how things work as a whole and then will break something down. He hates memorizing things and wanted so badly to learn his multiplication tables and we tried to help him but he just does not "do" memorization. When he is shown something and then explained how it works in common with other things you can just see that he "gets it" and we usually don't have to go back and re-explain it. when we ask him how he figured out certain things, he isn't able to tell us....all of these things point to a visual spatial learner BUT...I have also seen time and again that visual spatial learners do well with things like puzzles and block design - he has always had an issue with puzzles which frustrates him - he can verbally tell me where the piece goes but he can't seem to get his brain and his hand to work together to place the pieces - the same with the block design...he LOVES mazes, maps, charts but can not handle the Where is Waldo type situation where you have to single out an item from print....these are issues that come from him dyspraxia....so can you be a visual spatial learner with dyspraxia?
