We have hired talented high school students to work with our kids in their areas of strenght. It's a win/win situation because the high school kids get valuable work experience, decent pay for a short gig (we offer double the average babysitting fee) and we write letters of recommendation to include with their college applications.
Our kids get the benefit of spending time with a positive role model who trains them in an area of academic interest.
We have found the best pool of candidates from asking around at work and talking to the parents of teenagers.
EPGY sounds great, but is too pricey for us right now also.
