DS's school said they use GATE curriculum to teach students. Basically, they differentiate in their curriculum. They split kids up into ability groups and teach to their levels. Even most public schools in my area do that. It feels more like a gimmicks. They don't accelerate; they broaden instead.

Does it work? Because they don't believe in acceleration (subject or grade), ds, who is a few grades above grade level in both LA and math, is currently bored in class. This system of teaching can accommodate up to a grade above and below. Even the head teacher mentioned it's very hard to differentiate when the student is several grade above grade level.
