Doesn't hurt to ask! Might as well get started now, as you're are going to be spending a lot of time "asking" schools for stuff. Mia is right in that every school is different. Our district doesn't even have a "plan in writing" for gifted kids, yet the school my son is at is awesome!
Make sure you are clear in what you want prior to meeting with the school. There are several good articles on GT-Cybersouce (the site that brought you here) regarding advocating. Lots of pointers on making the best argument etc..Good Luck!
