We recently took our DS who is 3 1/2 to a dev. psychologist because we were having behavioral issues and his pediatrician said it was because he was gifted and not being challenged at school and we should move him up. We thought maybe he was gifted, but not sure and his school was refusing to move him up to the next age group because he is a mid-sept. birthday. So we took him to the psych for an independent eval. and some for some help in understanding what we could do to help him. I didn't think she would do an IQ test- but she did. His scores on the WPPSI-III was verbal 139, performance 117 and Full scale 132. She said that is real IQ was probably 139 because of verbal and she showed us the bell curve with him being at the end of the very superior section and said that its a blessing and a curse and we need to focus on the social skills right now, as well as find him a new school with older kids and some more academics... we've done all of this and its working- his behavior is much improved. But of course I now have questions about the IQ score- is it unstable because of his age? Could it go down? Could it go up? Would the score be different on another test? The SB test? Is 139 gifted, Highly gifted or exceptionally gifted?
Its great to have some answers, but of course its created even more questions!
Thanks for your help!
