I tend to err on the side of giving people too much information about GT/HG/DYS resources because too many parents are unaware of options for their kids. DS certaintly would have missed out on a lot of opportunities if it weren't for being "enlightened" by other parents. While I wouldn't be surprised if several parents have been "put off" by the info. I have given in response to complaints of their child being underchallenged, if even one kid benefits from the info. I'm glad I opened my mouth.
That said, I understand the temptation to get excited about the prospect of connecting with another child and parent going through similar issues and then maybe spilling out too much too soon about your experiences. I met another mom at the pool whose DS clicked with mine. She told me her DS was 7 with an Nov. b-day and going into 3rd so of course I assumed he skipped a grade and spilled out our whole grade-skip ordeal. Turns out she moved from an area with a Dec. cutoff and is a teacher who is anti-grade skip... Definitely a foot in mouth moment...
