Hi,

DS6 just started 1st and it's not going too well, initially his behavior was poor but has been improving, now acceptable.

He has a two hour language arts block. He is probably not alone in having easily met all end of year objectives. They do have reading groups and there are probably other children that read either at or nearly at his level in the grade.

He is across the board gifted but particularly creative, with an intense need for creative output, I had the idea to personally pay a tutor to go in and pull him for an hour of that block and work one on one in creative writing. Because he has dysgraphia he's unable to simply sit by himself and write a story, which he might otherwise be able to do. I think in our town we might be able to find a tutor with whatever qualifications were required by the school.

I would love to hear about any experiences anyone has had approaching their public school teacher and administration, positive or negative. How it worked or failed. What qualifications the school required the tutor to have.
