My Davison scholar is rising 3rd grade, did private K completing 2nd grade NC curriculum with high A's. a move back to our public yielded...zip, straight to 1st with "differentiation". He did get early AG identification due to our private testing (has to be 98th percentile or higher in either math or LA on BOTH IQ and achievement) so had an IDEP but it was not worth much with no measurable parameters established for growth.

This year, we had turnover due to maternity leaves so not a lot changed despite my earnest efforts. However, small changes eventually happened...a recognition from his teacher that he needed 5th and 6th grade words to be challenged in his vocabulary, assignment of a 5th grade AG student to work with him on more advanced math (just times tables though and recognition from our principal that maybe he was a different case than the usual gifted child. FFWD, found out about a newly revised district policy allowing single subject acceleration, the catch being I had to have all paperwork in within two days from our school! Evidently, notification to the schools was not part of the agenda, aargh. After much hoop jumping, we found out today that our ds qualified and will be subject accelerated to 4th grade math next year...he will probably be the only kid in our school so a very new prospect for them.

Keep plugging away, you never know! I see this as a stepping stone for grade skipping the following year
