I tried to post this question before, but somehow it never appeared, so please forgive me if this ends up being a duplicate.
I am wondering how likely it is that EXPLORE test results underestimate my daughter's ability. She took the EXPLORE test through the Duke TIP program, and all her scores were above average for the Duke TIP kids in her grade, but below the threshold for the DYS. It's not that I am sure she is more gifted than that--I'm not. The question is whether there would be sufficient doubt about her ability to make it worthwhile for me to pay for IQ testing.
She has always been at the top of her class in the very small private school she has attended, but I am pretty sure she hasn't been adequately challenged. They accelerated her one year in math, but even so she complains of being bored frequently. She's changing schools this year, and I can imagine that having ammunition for the new school might be helpful, but it isn't something I want to pay for if the chances of there being a much higher result on the IQ test are small.
It's worth noting that her school de-emphasizes standardized tests, to the point that the EXPLORE test was only the third standardized test she had ever taken.
I'd appreciate any input.
