My daughter recently took the SAGES-2 exam to qualify for a new G/T program at her school. She scored in the 99th percentile for Math/Science but only scored in the 66th percentile for Reasoning. Not only has she NEVER scored that low on any type standardized test, she received a perfect score on the Analogies section on the InView test just one month earlier. The Reasoning section on SAGES-2 is made up of analogies. She was also admitted into the Johns Hopkins' CTY program after passing their SCAT test in both verbal (all analogies) and math. How can a child score so high in the math section on SAGES-2 yet score so low on the Reasoning section? If she had scored in the 80th percentile, I would be more accepting. I would think that reasoning and mathematical aptitude at the 99th percentile would go hand-in-hand. Can a child who is gifted have an off day of testing?
