DS7 and I just finished the on-line program for
Brainology under the 14 day trial (ignoring all the stern instructions to leave at least a week in between each of the 4 parts and reinforce with other work, etc.). For use at home I definitely wouldn't pay for it, although DS quite enjoyed it. There's very little actual information in it; DS already knew almost all the neuroscience (and it hasn't been a special interest of his) and the study tips part is also very basic. (Meatiest part was the acronym BRAIN for study techniques: Break things up, Repeat, Active learning, Information search, Never give up.) DS already has a pretty secure growth mindset, though, and in that sense didn't need it. OTOH, I think if someone had a fixed mindset it would take more than this to change their mind! [ETA in fairness, that's obviously why you're supposed to space it out and do reinforcing things in between the parts.] Might spark something I suppose. I'd also be concerned about children any older than DS feeling patronised. I did like the fact that the brain spoke with an English accent though!
