Our test is not designed to differentiate at the higher end. If someone is scoring at the higher end they dont have a cognitive skill problem. Since we cover several different areas beyond what a typical IQ test covers, each subtest would have had to be too long to have fidelity at the higher end. To keep the test length reasonable, our focus is to identify whether a student has any specific weak cognitive skills. Although the test will identify weak skills for any age person 7 and up, the focus is on younger children. Our test used to be 50-100% longer, depending upon the test, and children found it too long to stay engaged.

The purpose of our test is to identify if any key cognitive skills may be weak and holding back a student from achieving their best. I have known several students that had high average IQs yet struggled with learning. It took very expensive cognitive skill testing to find out which specific skills were weak. Our test is designed to make that process easy and affordable.

Ah well. It was an interesting test anyway.

It was a little wonky - my DS5 (almost 6) also had like an age equiv of 14 on several sections.

Yeah, interesting test. And great just as a fun thing to do with Miss 7. But no, I really don't believe she has an auditory memory age equivalent of 13 or a long term memory of a 17 year old !!! But it was quite cool, and I ended up shoving some maths on the end of it and we 'worked' for about 75 minutes - the longest Miss 7 has sat - engaged - for months!!!

Now it's starting to make sense. No wonder those of us whose kids took it and were in the "higher end" were confused by the results.

Thanks Lina for getting the scoop on the test.

I wonder what additional info will be available later this year for this test?

I'd be kind of surprised if they could really norm a test based on internet responses... I mean it only takes a couple of bored insomniacs to seriously mess with the numbers in any variety of ways... LOL Generally I think test norming is meant to be a fairly controlled process...

But then I'm generally a cynic about stuff like this too wink

Not for nothing, but, the percentile results people have been reporting have been getting get me to thinking about how they normed the test in the first place..............

Off the subject but if anyone lives in the Chicago area our school is having Linda Silverman, Ph.D come to speak on Giftedness in general and the 2E challenges specifically.
    Lake Forest district 67.

I was asked to help get the word out and have interested people come.

She tested our 2E daughter and has been a real resource for all of us.
date- january 21st and 6:30 pm.

I can give details if anyone wants to PM me or find more information on the school web site www.lfelem.lfc.edu/district/programs/gifted_services.html

    JoAnn,
That looks really great and I wish I lived closer to Chicago. Hmmm...road trip??
I hope you don't mind me copying it to it's own new thread so it doesn't get missed.
