Through 12/31/08 you/your child can take a new test, The Gibson Cognitive Skills Test. It appears they are still collecting data for developing standardized scores. I'm wondering if everyone here took the test if we'd skew the numbers???

This test was authored by the founder of LearningRx.

Interesting. I signed up DS7, though I'm not sure when he'll have time to take it. Maybe tomorrow afternoon...

Thanks! I appreciate the link! I'm always looking for free/cheap ways to see how we're doing.

I'm interested in hearing how your DS7 does compared to other data you have. GS9 did not do as well in some areas as I expected. A couple problems with it that I saw, we're working on a laptop with about a 12 inch screen. The small screen messed with his visual/spatial results. I don't have a mouse hooked up, we're using the touch pad and I heard him say 'oops' a couple times. There didn't appear to be any way to correct 'oops' when accidental clicks are made.
Also, it's very verbal, and we had some noise interference.
Other areas, like processing speed and working memory, was very high, I wouldn't have guessed that after telling him to do several things and only getting a response on one of the items!

Interesting. It doesn't sound like a fabulous test design. I appreciate the advanced warning about the "oops" problem and the sound.

And LOL about the response. Boy, do I know how that is! (And wish I didn't!) grin

I signed myself up after a quick "yes" from my parents. :] I'll have to see about taking the test tomorrow or so. Thanks for the link!

I signed myself and DS6 up for the test. Looks like they are looking for adults to take the test as well. Anyone else going to try it themselves?

I will take it tomorrow after I get out of work. I will also have DS6 take it tomorrow evening.

I just had DS6 take it. The age equivalents seem a little wonky. He had an age equiv. of 14 yrs. for auditory processing?!

Yeah, I think it's a little wonky -- ds is sleeping, so I took it. smile

I got 16 of 18 on one section, which gave me a 65th percentile? Seems a little off to me ... I think they need a *lot* more data for norming!

Today's the last day to take it free of charge.

I took it, too. I've been aware of some auditory processing issues over the last few years. I was surprised that I tested average in that category for my age. It's been very frustrating for me, so much so that I hardly use a phone any more.
