My child took an OLSAT test at school (private school) 2 weeks ago. The only reason that I know about it is because one of the teachers sent an email saying that she was scrambling to make up the missed weekly science test before the report card was due because normal classes were canceled on the day of OLSAT testing. My son now says that he took a test that they called OLSAT and it was easy and over quickly. The school never informed the parents, never sent home the results and it is not available online. Am I within my rights to ask the administrator for the test scores? Could they have tested for their own internal student grouping and hence not release the results to parents?

I think you have the right to know the scores. At our public school, they take the test and they give the parents the results a couple of months later. They also let us know the kids are taking the OLSAT in advance. I would politely ask the teacher when you will get your son's results of the OLSAT - if they say they don't release them then you can go to the principal and ask why. But I suspect they will just give them to you.

If they don't send them out to you, you should be able to view your child's file at school, at least, and write them down (maybe take phone pics for archiving).

You can ask to see them. In my state, a parent can make an appointment to view the school's file on a child. Two weeks is not a very long time --- maybe they are reviewing each score or scheduling meetings to discuss results amongst themselves to determine who might need further testing. My child's former school used OLSAT as a screener only. If you did well enough on that, you went on to other standardized tests. So maybe they aren't sharing results with parents unless or until they are fully done with testing.

That doesn't mean you can't/shouldn't ask! Also, if you feel your child is gifted, you should make a written request for evaluation anyway just in case.
