    We have been debating about getting DS9 retested, so that he might have a chance go to the Summit with his older brother. He has a very unbalanced profile with 2 SD difference between VCI and PRI and a very slow processing speed ( sub tests scores below)

    It is very inconvenient to bring him along to the Summit but he is not able to participate in a lot of activities. Also, he is old enough to feel little sensitive about it.

    Another reason for further testing is to get him evaluated by a neuropsyc who is more familiar with learning disabilities. I felt there is more to the vision issue, that weren't idenified in the first evaluation.

    Any experience you can share for another evaluation after 2 years?

    The tester recalculated the GAI and got 132(98%).

    Some of the comments in the report worth noting:

    A seemed to concentrate quite well on several of the subtests( block design, picture concept, coding, matrix reasoning, and letter number sequencing). His focus seemed to be greatest during tasks that were easier for him, but he appeared to be highly distractible during other activities ( I.e. Similarity, vocabulary and comprehension). Although the present results are believed to be a valid measure of his current abilities, it is possible that they underestimate his potential abilities due to his distractibility and fidgetiness.

    I think the score kind of reflect what his strength and weaknesses. He still refuses to read chapter books although got quite interested in reading certain type of picture books, such as Bill Peet's books. I am just not sure how this large gap in verbal and nonverbal going to impact him in academics...

    I would expect one of the possible benefits of re-testing would be that it could involve the WISC-V, which separates PRI into VSI and FRI, which might allow the fluid reasoning area to distinguish itself a little more. There is also an additional quantitative index, the QRI, which might highlight any math-related giftedness.

    As to vision, I notice that when you first posted these scores, someone commented on the scanning demands of his two lowest scores. I would agree that that is a hypothesis worth investigating, especially in combination with his reluctance to read masses of text. I rarely see the lowest PSI score on cancellation, except in children who have difficulty tracking & scanning from line to line, either for visual reasons, or sustained attention reasons. Although tracking is also involved in coding, scanning does not play as large a role.

    Being a reluctant reader, even one with a reasonably rich oral language-environment, tends to impact vocabulary knowledge (though more so in children beginning from the intermediate age, than in primary-age children), as non-readers have much less exposure to the depth and breadth of vocabulary than voracious readers do. Not surprisingly, his lowest VCI score is on vocabulary. But he reasons quite well with the words he knows (similarities). If he's still a reluctant reader, the vocab score may still be lower, or even have slipped a little. (Comprehension is not a core subtest on the WISC-V, so that is unlikely to be a factor.)

    A full eval does have the advantage that it should include achievement testing, and possibly other measures of executive function/attention/memory, which might be informative.

    Aeh, I was hoping you would provide your thoughts. Thank you!

    DS does have tracking, convergence and focusing issue and is going through vision therapy. I have a few posts on vision issue as well.

    He is very mathy, flying through math concepts with no need for repetition. The two timed subrests were impacted by his speed. He got a few more right answers after time was up.
