I posted a few weeks ago about my quest to get my DS14 into honor science in H.S. I am running into a brick wall. To top it off my son isn't helping matters. He yet again DID not turn in an assignment that he swore to me last week wasn't due. He would not go and talk with the teacher about it. Makes me look like a fool.

hmmm - looks to me like you're a parent who is holding up your end of the deal beautifully... but the kid and the school - not so much right now!

could you maybe book him a session or two with a homework/study skills consultant with a view to cleaning up his piece of the puzzle? sometimes simple stuff like that goes a long way with a kid, especially if they're having a tough time being straight with a parent - or facing the teacher after the fact.

Ugh-- I so sympathize with you about the lack of cooperation from the child here.

I'm just straight (and not too pleasant, honestly) with my DD when she pulls this nonsense.

If you want to be treated like {placement} then you have a LONG way to go to step up and ACT like your peers. They organize their own work and time, and they don't have excuses. If you can't do that, then don't be surprised when they treat you as if you don't belong there-- because under those conditions, they're right.

She has to BE the same as her academic peers for a particular placement. That's the deal. More appropriate work-- but less age-appropriate expectations come as a package deal. We'll help her to develop skills that she needs for managing, but we won't do it for her.

Thanks. The material is easy, it doesn't even take him very long when he does it. Drives me up a wall. My older child struggled with learning, but she always completed every assignment even if she did it wrong.

Oh I so get you - My older DS did this just last week - 0 for not turning in 2 homework assignments in a row and 100 and 98 on the 2 tests that week. Lo behold his grade has slipped to a B and he is all upset. I told him to go talk to his teacher if he wants to get it fixed. I suspect he must have been dreaming in class when the teacher asked them to turn in their homework.
I hope your DS and mine learn to organize their work better and realize how important it is to not just do the work but turn it in on time.
