New here. DS10 had these results from recent WISC:

    VCI 130
    Similarities 15
    Vocab 17
    Comp 13

    PRI 131
    Block 11
    Pictures 15
    Matrix 19

    WMI 116
    Digit 13
    Letter-number 13

    PSI 112
    Coding 14
    Symbols 10

    FSIQ 130
    GAI 136

How gifted do these results indicate? Is it normal for a kid like this to have lower WMI and PSI scores? He's in a one-day-a-week GT program for 4th grade. Should we be doing more with him?

    Hi M3rd,
DS10 is definitely gifted. Do you have achievement scores also? Was the test given for any particular reason?

It's really hard to look at the scores alone and say yes or no. How is he doing? Does he like school? Does he have friends?

I wouldn't worry about the WM and PSI scores - afterall, he is still better than about 70% of kids his age, and many, many gifted kids are just average or below average in those areas.

    Welcome,
    Grinity

Hi Grinity, thanks for responding. He's an A student and loves his GATE program but we are applying for a full-time gifted public school program for next year and it's pretty difficult to get into. Grade equivalancies on the MAP were Math-post 12th grade, English-mid 10th grade. He makes friends easily but prefers a few close friends. He is small for his age and loves ski racing, recently placing in the top 30 for his age group in the far western US. I guess like a lot of other parents we don't want to miss any oppertunities for him!

    Ski Racing! Wow!
Good luck with the full-time gifted public school program, I hope it works out for your family, and I suspect that it will.

Great to hear that he has folks that he wants as close friends in his life.

As far as not missing opportunities, it sounds like you are right on track. If the full time program doesn't work out, post so we can brainstorm alternatives.

Keep in mind that when he is 12, it will be a good idea to take the ACT college admissions test, not for college purposes, but to be a part of your regional talent search, with some great sleepaway camp programs to enjoy.

    Yippee!
