So we had conferences last night for ds7 - his 2nd grade teacher just had a baby this weekend, so we just saw his 3rd grade math teacher. She says since they are working on geometry at the moment, they're going to work on a "dream clubhouse" project, where they design, draw up blue prints, and build a model. She's not going to work on it during math time, though, so is hoping the principal will allow Nathaniel to miss more 2nd grade class time so he can work on the project, too. We of course said its OK with us - sounds like so much fun !! She also has ds and a couple of others working on a game called Krypto, which also sounds interesting smile Math class sounds NOTHNG like it did when I went to school back in the dark ages !

Sounds like stuff we did in the gifted program as a child. I agree that this sounds much better than drill, drill, drill.

Our kiddo's math is wildly erratic from simple stuff (multiply -- she's in 6th grade math) to oddly complex (factorial analysis in combinations as compared to permutations -- n! divided by (n-k)! * k! for the combinations).
