So 3 weeks ago, we had ds7's conference (2nd grade, math accelerated to 3rd grade). His 3rd grade teacher came to the conference (which a was a surprise, as she had been on maternity leave with a very sick baby) - she told us that ds was in the top group for math in her class, with 3 of her 3rd graders, and that he fit in well with them. Yesterday, she e-mailed me with the following -
""This is kind of random, but the day after conferences I thought of this and thought "I should have clarified this with them." I mentioned N is in the top math group - what I failed to mention is the group is made up of other gifted students (1 labeled, 1 that is but parents haven't turned paperwork in, and one other), so when I said he fits right in with them...they aren't "typically" third graders either...if that makes any sense! They are really in the same place as N though, just choosing the more efficient strategy and working with larger numbers""
So now I'm wondering - should he stay in 3rd grade for math, or should we try to get him into 4th grade for math ? I think I just answered my own question - he has the group of 3 to work with, so no reason to accelerate more, really ? What would you all do in this case ??
