sorry, just slowly going through our girls results and working out what they all mean. I am wondering if anyone knows enough about the WISC IV for 6 yr olds to be able to tell me what the difference between testing 14 and 18 on the CO of the VCI would be? It was the biggest single score difference between my twins and I was just wondering what sort of question would represent a 14 and what sort of question represents an 18

    hope someone can help

I know the test well, and I don't think there's anything I could say that would answer the question while preserving test security. Bottom line is that there's not a huge difference in *type* of question as you move up. It's mostly just that the sophistication and abstraction increases. But it increases quite gradually, with no huge jumps. Also, remember that a raw score might represent different questions being answered with different levels of correctness by different kids -- it's often the case that kids don't go 2222222211100000 but 22212202110021100000 (where each digit is the score on a successive item).

I would say that in general, the tester should be able to tell you what they're seeing in the data. You shouldn't be left wondering -- it's our job to help you understand.

thanks guys, I realise I'm not allowed the actual questions but just left a bit curious as to what this difference was. The tester did give me the idea that the twin who scored highest actually started with a few 0's but then progressed but the other started well and then bombed (and I would say the one with the highest score has the best comprehension). Are you allowed to make up a similar type of question (one that is not on the test at all) to give me an idea of what sort of comprehension we are talking about in the top half of the 6yr old range. I guess I just have no idea whether they were asked about general knowledge, or read a passage and asked to interpret it or what it was all was like. I do understand that you may all not answer my question as it is inappropriate but if there is anything you are allowed to say to give me a general idea that would be great (certainly don't want anyone to break any rules)

It is not reading/listening comprehension at all but understanding of social situations that is measured.
