My DD8 re-took the SCAT a few days ago. She took it in February and got a qualifying score in verbal, but did not finish the math. I wanted to give her a chance to finish the math section to give her an opportunity to take classes and camps in math.

For verbal, she got one fewer answer correct than she did in February (41 vs 42) but her percentile went down 10 points. Is this common?

Also, can I use the bar charts in the scoring book that I got for the February test to evaluate her results or do I need to wait for a new book? I guess I am asking is that scoring book specific to the test form she had in February (ex1) vs the one she had this week (ey2).

    Thanks!

I don't know about the book question and was wondering the same thing. My daughter DD8, 3rd (grade accelerated) took the SCAT in April and then again last Friday. We had the ey1 first, followed by the ex1. In April she scored in verbal 28/428. It was so close to the cut off, I decided to have her try again. This time she got 32/429. It's hard to believe 4 more correct questions only nudged her up a point, but I've seen similar posts her before so I guess it is common for the scores to fluctuate from one test version to another and just depending when you test. The good news for us is her math increased substantially from 32/429 to 46/470. I guess maybe analogies just aren't her thing as her reading/language arts skills are actually a really strong area for her.

Interesting on the verbal scores! Did her percentiles change? That was what I found so staggering, that one fewer question correct was a drop in 10 percentiles.

Sorry about the verbal score though. frown Those analogies can be rough. My DD's third grade class spent a LOT of time on analogies this year, so I guess that was a good thing for the SCAT.

I messed up in my previous post, she actually took the ey1 last week (the same as your DD took in April) and ex2 in February.

Her percentile on the verbal went up from 45 to 49. I wish she had qualified for the verbal this year, so I guess she will be trying again next year on the 4th/5th grade version.
