I remember seeing previous posts debating about prep vs. not-prep kids for IQ and achievement tests, and the show that documented the challenges in getting into "prestigious" preschools and kindergartens in New York. Just saw this article in The New York Times....

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/07/nyregion/07erb.html?src=me&ref=general

The article has a link to a "guide" containing sample questions of various components to the test.

The ERB is only for "independent schools" ie. private like Dalton, Trinity etc.

It is not used for the citywide gifted public programs, which use the OLSAT -- which is even worse for an indicator of IQ. Hunter still uses the SBV as an entrance screening to get to the interview stage. And they have to be administer by a group of psychologists that are approved by Hunter.

So which is actually an intelligence test etc....

There are things you can prep for and not. Like this year, we prepped for the OLSAT because the results were terrible. This year she got into the 99th percentile. But what we prepped was listening through 60 questions in a classroom setting. Trying not to get distracted -- which was clearly an issue last year, as I reviewed the results. You could teach your child how to answer the questions and many kids that are tested at 4 or 5 years do prep well. But after that, the tests really weed them out.

in my country it is has become a must for kids to do pre-nursery or pre-school.
because there is a lot of competition regarding which the schools have started conducting entrance tests.
so if we wish to get our kid admitted in a proper school then the kid has be prepared before that.
