I know that getting high test scores on the SSAT is important because some of the exam scores are compared to other students who have taken the test in a three year period.

SSAT study guide is good thing to use, also
SSAT books are very cheap and effective.
My daughter used the multimedia program(on one of the above linked pages) to prepare for her exam and aced it. I think the videos and interactive experiences from this product were awesome, but I think I she could have done just as well with one of the cheaper Barnes&Noble books.
