Thanks to everyone for your supportive input. It helps.

All of your information and your varying perspectives and experiences are much appreciated and have given me a lot to think about. Given everything you've shared, I am leaning towards testing (although after reading the thread in this category about what constitutes HG, now I have some new things to think about).

Hi, Taminy! I waited a long time to get IQ testing for my son because I was worried that the score wouldn't accurately reflect his abilities since he's got ADHD-like issues and I worried testers would bias themselves/get frustrated with him and we'd be stuck with that score.

When we moved to our current city, however, we got a recommendation for a psychologist who not only specializes in working with/testing gifted kids, but also twice-exceptional gifted kids. Long story short(er): DS was tested at 8 years 10 months. He hit the ceiling in three areas, but his GAI figured out to 153, which I feel like is about right. 10.5 is much older in terms of the WISC-IV ceilings, though I don't know if extended norms would help. Maybe talking to someone who administers tests with higher ceilings or that are designed for adults would be helpful? Good luck -- I really feel your pain. The whole school thing can be such an exercise in frustration!
