Our family started playing a new game that really highlights the affect of working memory and processing speed.

Player 1 thinks of a word, and says 3 or 4 of it's letters.
The other players try and come up with their own word which has the selected letters.
If one of the other players can find a word (it doesn't have to be the original word) then they get 3 or 4 points depending on how many letters were used.

If the other players are stumped, then Player 1 has to say their word aloud to prove that it exists and actually has those letters. If they can't, then subtract 3 or 4 points from their score.

The player who found the word in round 1 becomes the next player 1 - this helps keep it even.

I put this game here in 2E because I laugh and laugh trying to 'hold' 4 random letters in my head. I have a bottleneck with working memory.

Processing speed helps the players come up with possible word ideas.

We are having fun, and I love the challenge of 'almost' holding all 4 letters and potential word matches in my brain.

HINT: Compound words make it much easier.

That sounds fun. Here's another one. First player (1) says, 'Grandma is going on a trip and in her backpack is AAAA'. Player (1) determines a pattern to follow in what is in the backpack. Player (2) responds with 'Grandma is going on a trip and in her backpack is AAAA and BBBBB', trying to guess the pattern and following with an item that fits the pattern. Player (1) continues to add items to the backpack that fit the pattern, until another player figures out the pattern. You can use an alphabetical pattern, animal species, what an item is made of, etc. 2 or more players can play. First player to guess the pattern, wins, and starts the game over with a different pattern.
