Considering I was advocating against 6 people for my DS6 and considering that they were not happy with some of my requests, it went well!

My DS6's IEP will give him 2 hours of gifted instruction (compacted and accelerated written into the goals) each day for reading and math with a gifted teacher outside of the classroom. They even changed the measurable goals section to a specific growth goal with pre and post testing! They still used a CRT which I wouldn't have used, but it was a huge win to get that wording changed. They also agreed to give DS6 the ITBS at the end of the year at a grade above the current grade he is in.

What we didn't get and had asked for was the addition of Distance Learning, Spanish, Homeschooling element and the regular education elements of pre and post testing for science. We were told we could not write that in the IEP, which I believe is actually not the case. We agreed to table that since this is our first one of these meetings and we wanted him to get started right away. The head of the school system is suppose to get me written documentation to support her claims so that we can address it at the next meeting. Thankfully we are one of those more protected states so if she's correct there will be a document to prove it.

So overall we feel its was a HUGE WIN!!!!

Thank you all for your warm thoughts and prayers today!

Dottie you crack me up on the testing! It's totally true though.

I agree about it's actually what they do that counts so I'll be watching it. The gifted teacher sounded like she understood the concept of compacting and accelerating so we'll see how it plays out in actual practice. For math it will actually just be the gifted teacher and my DS6 for 60 minutes so if she can't appropriately educate in that setting we have a problem.

I can't wait for him to start!!!
