    Here is a program I just learned of that seems similar to ROTC but incurs a DoD civilian scientist commitment rather than military service.
    We�ll be looking at this again in a few years.

    2009 recipient here

    I wouldn't say that it's very similar to ROTC. Yes, there is a service commitment, but while you're at school, you're not participating in any activities. In fact, all you really have to do to stay in the program is get good grades and don't end up in jail.

    I looked into that during college before getting a scholarship. It seems like a good program for young scientists. It is very different than ROTC--no basic training during the summers, fitness training before classes in the morning, or extra classes to take...

    That might be the deal breaker for my dd! I�ll make her look into it anyway.
