I just had my IEP with my sons school, he made it into the gifted program and explained to me all about these scores but It is so much information, that Im not sure I have it all straight. I also had my 3 year old with me, so I am sure I missed something. I hear talk about a FSIQ score, how do I know what that is from this book of test scores the evaluator gave me?
There are scores in here for

    Reynolds Intellectual Assessment Scales
Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Fourth Edition
    Diagnostic Achievement Battery Third edition
Woodcock-Johnson Test of Achievement Third edition
Structure of the intellect Primary (don't know if thats a test or what)

I know he was very figgity after the 2nd day and hurried through the end, and didn't do well on some parts that are timed because he had to explain his answers. I also know he had problem with some money questions. I guess I just want to try and understand this better and what all these numbers mean. Any help would be great, just tell me what numbers from what sections you would need to get the FSIQ score.
    Thank you

Hi, welcome! The FSIQ is something that is calculated from several subtests of the Weschsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC IV) so it should be shown in that section. Also some of the verbal subtests will be put together to give a score referred to as 'VCI' and same with the math side, called 'PRI'. Not all subtests go into these various scores. Good luck in your quest to understand it all! smile

Here is the numbers that are given in each section. The evaluator has extended an invite for my son to test for the gifted only school. I am thinking his scores don't seem high enough to do well. But I am by no means an expert.

    Reynolds Intellectual Assessment Scales (RIAS)
    Composite Intelligence Index (CIX) 134
    Verbal Intelligence Index (VIX) 119

With a note: Cole (my son) 'overprocessed' the statements on the verbal reasoning subtest to the extent that he missed answers.

    Nonverbal Intelligence Index (NIX) 143

Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition (WISC-IV)
    Verbal Comprehension Subtest Scores
    Similarites-19
    Vocabulary-17
    Comprehension-16

    Composite Score
    Verbal Comprehension-144
    Verbal Comprehension Index 99.8% (VCI=144;95% Confidence interval=135-148)

    Diagnostic Achievement Battery-Third Edition
    Measure-----------------%ile----St.SC.-----Grade Eq.------Quot.
    Alphabet/Word Knowledge------95-------15----------3.7
    Reading Comprehension--------98-------16----------4.7
    Reading----------------------99-------------------------------133

Woodcock-Johnson Test of Achievement-Third Edition (Cluster)
    Measure------------------Grd.Eq.---------Age St. Sc.----------Age %ile
    Total Achievement-----------------------------123-------------------94
    Broad Reading-----------------2.4-------------122-------------------93
    Broad Math--------------------1.8-------------118-------------------88
    Broad Written Language--------2.1-------------125-------------------95
    Math Calculation Skills-------1.7-------------117-------------------87
    Written Expression------------2.3-------------125-------------------95
    Academic Skills-------------------------------127-------------------96
    Academic Fluency------------------------------110-------------------75
    Academic Application--------------------------126-------------------96

Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement-Third Edition (Subtest)
    Measure----------------------Age St.Sc.---------Age %ile
    Letter-Word Indentification--------130---------------98
    Reading Fluency--------------------118---------------89
    Calculations-----------------------123---------------94
    Math Fluency------------------------90---------------26
    Spelling---------------------------118---------------88
    Writing Fluency--------------------101---------------52
    Passage Comprehension--------------120---------------91
    Applied Problems-------------------114---------------83
    Writing Samples--------------------130---------------98

On the DAB-3 Cole scored in the Very Superior range on the reading cluster (4.7 grade equivalent on the reading Comprehension subtest)
Cole was delightful to evaluate. He was cooperative and attentive to the task. He appeared confident and self-assured. On the verbal portion of the WISC-IV he perservered even when the questions became extremly difficult for him. On the last question on the similarites subtest (test students from age 6-16) he stated "I'm going to try to do the space and time one," and proceeded to answer it correctly.
Cole persevered on the reading comprehension subtest on the DAB-3 despite the fact that the fourth and fifth grade passages were very difficult for him to read. He continued to the end of the passage and was able to answer many of the questions for these stories.
Although Cole is very bright and verbal, on some of the RIAS verbal reasoning questions he would over process the question until he would miss the answer.
Cole tended to be impersistent on the applied problem subtest. He couldn't decide what a nickle was worth. Many of the higher level math word problems involved money, and just gave up.
Cole talked and explained his answerd during the timed reading fluency subtest on the WJ III test of achievement and scored high average, the reading portion of the DAB-3 were administered because there is no timed component in the battery.

Thank you so much for your response. We are still discussing the gifted school, he would have to be taken out of his current school and leave his friends and regular teacher who he loves. He is also very into sports and being in a different school district he would also be in a different sports district. So alot to decide. Right now he goes to a gifted class at his current school 2 days a week for about 5 hours a week. He LOVES it, always really excited to come home and tell us all about it.
