DS took WISC and WIAT 2 saturdays ago. The test results are not what I was expecting. When he took the WPPSI at 4 his results where 130 and she said he was close to hitting the ceiling in 1 or 2 areas and that he wouldn't do the easy material just the hard material so she couldn't count the easy one and so the results where probably off and that his IQ was more. Now the WISC says that his IQ is 120. I am so confused. My ds is a 7 year old 2nd grader that has been grade advanced and today the school (virtual public school) thought that my ds had been retained a grade b/c he scored high 3rd grade in reading and 4/5 grade for math.

So, how can a boy who the school thinks should be in 4th grade or 5th grade and technically is a 2nd grader only have an IQ of 120, which is not in the gifted range?

    So, confused!

Alex - do you have the subtest scores? You really need to look at the spread of the index scores. Did the WIAT2 scores match the WISCIV scores?

Our DS7 took the WJIII achievement test at 5 and his scores were practically all 99.9s, and then he took some IQ test or other after turning 6 and it showed him at 110. They just threw it out because everybody knew it wasn't right--they said they'd wait to test him again until he's at least 8. So some days are like that! smile

Well, we have decided to just not really accept these scores. Ds has tested gifted 2 different times. Once using the WPPSI and second time when he was in public school. This just was an off day or something. He is currently working 3 grade levels above for math reading 4 grades above and is doing middle school Science. If this isn't gifted then what? Even through ds's academic is high enough for DYS the testing doesn't show that right now. Maybe in the future.

The first time we tested DD (around 3.7) she got an IQ of 120, with a verbal IQ of 100.
One year later, at 4.7, she got an IQ of 144 with a verbal one of 147.

Different testers and test, but still.

Moral of the story: trust your guts. If you thinks these results do not correspond to your child, then you are most probably right.

(((hugs))) to you because we are in exactly the same place, except DS is 9.
