This post is a bit of a brag and a bit of a reality check grin My dd8 is on her 24th book of the summer. She absolutely devours books. I was a pretty avid reader but she seems extreme to me. Anybody else out there? Also I was looking for input on guiding her reading. I always look for good books for her and am pretty successful at finding things she enjoys but should I pushing her to read nonfiction, state reading lists etc??? I shy away because I figure she has years of required reading ahead of her and I should let her just enjoy and read whatever she wants right now. Thoughts?

My DS9 devours books too. 10 a week this summer. I'll give you some reading lists to check out. I would let her read what she wants as long as you think it's not unappropriate like too scarey.I would not push her to read. You can have her help you request books from the library on their website.

I keep wondering how I will be able to keep up with his demand but somehow I do it. Librians have expressed they wonder about us at the library. We have fun with that.

If you search for school websites, look for their summer reading lists, look at gifted websites, look at libraries websites try NYC library. Library's have books with lists of ages & types of books.

Happy book hunting. Loving to read is a wonderful gift. You should be proud.

Funny that you listed Loreen Leedy. My DS4, a total word nut, absolutely devoured the 440 sayings and definitions in There's a Frog in My Throat. I've even considered buying it, after renewing it at the library so many times. I'll have to check out her other books.

    Thanks!

I let my kids choose their own books too. However, I do admit to the occasional trip to the library for great kids books that I can "casually" scatter around the house....My voracious reader could NEVER walk past a new book without picking it up--even if she wouldn't have picked out herself from the vast selection at the library wink
