NotSure-I too live in the Midwest and your experience is identical to mine. I wonder if we're in the same district? I just spoke with an administrator today regarding my child's WASI results. I was completely blown off and was finally told that I could have the WISC test administered. The unfortunate this is, is that the administrator couldn't give me much information regarding the test administrator's credentials or certifications. I would really like to know, when the psychologist's that I called say you should have PHD to administer the exam, why the school district has counselors administering these tests? I am very concerned about an inaccurate score going in my child's permanent file and a teacher friend of mine said that you can have the score removed from the file. Just an FYI if things don't go your way. Good luck to you and your child!

    Hi NotSure,

I'm just curious if you have made a decision on the WISC testing. My son also had the WASI last year. He receives speech therapies from the school district so they administered the test as part of the re-evaluation process. He scored 132 (while refused answering a lot of questions because he was too hungry! I didn't expect the test to be this long so he didn't have breakfast) but I have always been wondering what the score would be if he had the full WISC instead of the abbreviated version.

Anyway, I'm really sorry to hear your son was upset. It really broke our hearts when our little ones got hurt. Maybe try not to make it a big deal, treat it as a little exercise instead of a big test. Best of luck to you and your child!

Peanut711: I live in Missouri. I'm also very concerned about this test score haunting him for the rest of his educational career.

Mic: I have decided to have him take the WISC, but I'm going to look into the testers qualifications first.

The district psychologist contacted me via email and stated that she will administer the test and that it should take one hour. I believe that I've read that the WISC takes longer than an hour. Would someone mind letting me know how long the test takes, please? What questions should I ask before I allow him to be given the test by this person?

I'm surprised to hear the full test will only take 60 minutes. My son took WASI and I thought it took a little less than 3 hrs. But he also took WIAT II at the same time.

    Good luck with the test!!

We got the results for the WISC today, and ds got a 134. That seems like a big difference from the 126 he got on the WASI. He told the woman who was administering the WISC that the woman how gave him the WASI was weird, so maybe there was a disconnect between them. He starts the STRETCH program the second week of school, and is so excited.

Thanks again for all of your insight everyone!

    Thanks Dottie!

He's going to have a full day pull out once per week. We go to the open house for the program next week.
