Should one be concerned about the WASI Verbal IQ test if the child being tested in receiving speech therapy? Seems that VIQ is based in part on vocabulary as expressed verbally. If a child has articulation or expressive language challenges and is receiving speech therapy, might that be expected to affect VIQ negatively? Has this been documented one way or the other?

Hopefully someone has some information about this as I have been wondering the same thing. DS4 has been referred to a speech therapist for issues we have long had concerns about (articulation). In looking back at his WPPSI scores the numbers comprising the VIQ seem strangely low given he is reading 2.5 levels above grade.

I know there are a ton of other factors that could have determined his score but I am definitely curious to know if there has been any research done on this.

dbraunstein have you already had the testing done? It would seem that you would definitely want to have someone that specializes in testing gifted children given you concern.

We did have the test done. It was done specifically by a school psychologist who has experience with gifted children. But we don't have the scores yet. We have yet to find any concrete research on this subject. My unsubstantiated suspicion is the sample upon which the WASI test is/was developed and scaled did not specifically address expressive language and articulation issues because my research indicates that only 3-5% of children have such issues.
