Mite is enjoying his diveintomath.com Saxon math course.

We want to find him a dvd or online writing course and need some suggestions. EPGY is a bit pricey for us.

    Hi,
We have hired talented high school students to work with our kids in their areas of strenght. It's a win/win situation because the high school kids get valuable work experience, decent pay for a short gig (we offer double the average babysitting fee) and we write letters of recommendation to include with their college applications.
Our kids get the benefit of spending time with a positive role model who trains them in an area of academic interest.
We have found the best pool of candidates from asking around at work and talking to the parents of teenagers.
EPGY sounds great, but is too pricey for us right now also.

Not sure what kind of writing course you're thinking of, but I've heard glowing reports about the creative writing courses from mentisonline.com

They are geared toward grades 3 to 6, however, and I can't recall offhand how old your Mite is.

I like Delbows idea.... I did some tutoring in high school and it was a great experience for me. You may well be able to find personal guidance from someone who really cares about doing well.

    Hi Willa,

My two daughters took CTY distance learning writing classes and they loved them. The classes are mostly for middle and high school kids (5th grade and above). Your kid might be a bit young for that. The kids also have to take CTY tests to get into the program first. The cost is about $800 per class last about 3-4 months. For more information:
    http://cty.jhu.edu/writing/courses.html

Another option is to find a mentor who can do e-mail exchange with your kid. Give comments, correct grammar errors, etc. If you are interested, send me an e-mail clu@cisco.com and we can talk off-line. I may be able to get my younger daughter Yanran (13, 9th grade, YS) to do that.
