Yes, thank you. I will post updates.

I'm supposed to meet with my dd's homeroom teacher next Wednesday to discuss class placements for next year. I hope to come back with good news.

BTW, I did receive confirmation that the RIT scores will be considered, however not heavily. Other "factors" are considered. I'd like a little more information on what the other "factors" are. I hope to have more clarification after my Wednesday meeting.

    Update:

I had the meeting with my dd6's homeroom teacher regarding her Math placement for next year. I wanted to know how much they would consider her RIT score for her Math placement next year. She said that they do not base their assessment solely on the NWEA MAP tests, but do consider the scores in conjunction with her performance this year. (I saw the class grades at the last P/T conferences and dd6's was by far the highest.)

She did make a comment that some gifted children are just really good at taking multiple choice tests. I suppose that is possible depending on the answer selections given, gifted children can make very good "educated guesses."

Anyway, she looked up my dd6's score and agreed that it was high. She will try to do further "in house" assessment before the end of the year to see what she knows and then will look at her closely again at the start of next year.

Thanks for the update. Did you see this thread about the primary and secondary MAP tests?
    http://giftedissues.davidsongifted....P_Test_Primary_vs_Seconda.html#Post47865

I wonder if your daughter may be running into a ceiling effect on the Primary Grades Survey. DD7 had a 213 RIT on the Primary test and I asked her school if she could be retested on the secondary test. No answer yet.

It's something you may want to consider because her score could be artificially suppressed by the ceiling of the primary test.

    Good point.

I'll double check, but I believe she took the Secondary test.

You must be right because she has a language usage score. If she took the primary, she would only have reading and math.

    Just one more update:

Another thing I hope will help my dd's math placement for next year is that she was a recipient of the Continental Math League award. I hope that her math class performance, NWEA MAP, and her performance for the Continental Math League will all be considered in her assessment for placement next year.

Maybe showing examples of the types of problems she solved in Continental Math League will help too.
Congrats to her and good luck advocating for the right level of math! smile
